Toni Baldó’s opinion: In a department that currently employs 15 people, including sales and back-office staff, in 10 years, only 3 people will be needed to handle the entire workload. And in-person visits will be reserved for very, very specific situations.
Do transport sales professionals have a future with new technologies?
I asked ChatGPT, and this is what it said: Yes, transport sales professionals do have a future with new technologies. The transport industry is undergoing a major transformation driven by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation, and the Internet of Things.
In this context, transport sales professionals can leverage these technologies to enhance their skills and competencies in selling advanced transport solutions. For example, they can use artificial intelligence tools and data analytics to identify business opportunities and customise their offerings to the specific needs of each client.
Furthermore, new technologies are also driving the growth of new business models in transport, such as autonomous delivery and smart logistics. Transport sales professionals can adapt to these changes and specialise in selling innovative and cutting-edge solutions for transport and logistics.
In summary, although new technologies are transforming the transport industry, transport sales professionals have a promising future if they adapt to these trends and take advantage of the opportunities offered by emerging technologies.
The truth is, I don’t entirely believe what ChatGPT says. Today, I’ll just give you a couple of reasons, and we can keep debating…
I think when ChatGPT is asked these types of questions, the system is designed not to scare people, no matter the sector… the bit about «…specialising in the sale of innovative and cutting-edge solutions…» seems far too forced to me… very much by the book…
I believe we won’t disappear, but some current sales tasks are halfway between sales work and management processes. These latter processes will eventually be handled perfectly, if not better, by technology.
POV: in a department that currently employs 15 people, including sales and back-office staff, in 10 years, only 3 people will be needed to handle the entire workload. And in-person visits will be for very, very specific situations.
So, what do you think about all this?
